"Owning and residing in a log cabin in a beautiful and private setting provides a fantastic lifestyle many people just dream of. However, a log cabin has to be properly cared for and maintained or the value of the cabin will be drastically reduced and what should have been maintenance costs then become major repair costs. "Our log home is on a main channel on Smith Mountain Lake. We wanted to choose a company that could restore the logs as close to its original look as possible, and wanted to lighten the color of the logs since the original stain of 1999 when the home was built was darkening considerably. Our Lindal Cedar home was severely damaged by wind driven, golf ball size hail. We went to our local home center seeking recommendations. They suggested several contractors. Dennis Turpin at TPC Restoration was one of their top picks. TPC specialized in restoration of wood structures along with refinishing. Our vertical cedar siding was porous, so the hail not only dimpled the wood but left a multitude of light colored round spots! Dennis met with us, surveyed the damage, and discussed possible remedies from total replacement of the siding, to sanding the whole structure, to chemically stripping the structure. He explained the … benefits and drawbacks of each option along with products that would be used. Since our loss involved an insurance claim, Dennis offered to meet with us and the claim adjustor to explain the restoration options and the work content involved. By having the three way discussion, we were able to decide on a course of action that was agreeable to all. Dennis restored a sample section of the siding by applying an environmentally friendly chemical stripper, that was removed with a high temperature, high pressure washer. That process proved very successful, leaving a uniform, fresh surface that still had the beautiful grain. At that point Dennis provided us an estimate for when the work would begin. This cedar home was in need of some carpentry work. We came in and replaced several cedar boards and decking boards on the home. After we replaced the boards, we pressure-cleaned the exterior and deck then brushed two coats of a solid color stain to the house and the deck.

We removed the failing stain on this log home with an environmental safe stripper. Afterwards, we replaced the caulk as needed and applied two coats of stain with a clear top coat for added uv protection

This log home was stained just a year ago and the stain has begun to fail. We chemically removed the stain with an environmentally safe stripper. We then applied two coats of stain to the log home.

The Inman's - 2011

This log home is a new construction. In working with the contractor and the home owner, the decision was made to use three different colors of stain. The logs are one color, the windows, door trim, and soffits are another color, and the gutter boards, porch ceilings, and doors are a third color. We did a simple pressure cleaning to the exterior of the log home followed by caulking and staining.

This log home needed a simple pressure cleaning with environmentally safe wood cleaners to remove and kill the mold and mildew. The existing caulk was pulling away from the logs due to settling and shrinking, so we recaulked all the exterior logs. Then we applied two coats of a log home stain and one top coat for added UV protection.

This log home is a work in progress. The logs were sprayed with a vinyl coating that has begun to fail. Due to the thickness of the coating, we have to grind the coating off the logs, where chemical stripping or media blasting would not be efficient without causing damage to the logs. To complete this restoration, we will wash, recaulk, and stain the log home.

This cabin has gone many years without proper maintenance. The owner did not want to media blast the cabin, so we sanded the logs to remove the weathered surface. Next, we washed the logs to remove the dust and kill any midew that may have still been on the logs. Finally, we applied a borate to the logs, recaulked them, and applied two coats of stain to finish the job.

We stained this log home initially when it was built three years ago. We went back this year and performed light pressure cleaning. We then applied one coat of stain for maintenance, to protect and keep the house looking nice.
